Covid has your career on the Rocks?!? Here's a few ways to make sure you get it back on track.

Right now thousands of American's have lost their jobs and are seeking employment. In 2009 I found myself in this very same situation. Here are a couple things you can try right now that can help you land that next job and get you back on track.

1) Work your Network

Sometimes we let our ego get in the way of finding new opportunities. Put your ego to the side and begin reaching out to your network as soon as you are furloughed, layed-off or fired. Most individuals get their next job opportunity due to a referral, and sometimes it's an indirect referral. It's important to do this as quickly as possibly. Don't be shy, bashful, or arrogant. Even CEOs find themselves unemployed. By putting your network to work, you have an army of people looking out for you. This, with your own efforts, will have an exponential effect to raise your chances of getting hired quickly.

2) Put the Link in LinkedIn.com

I'll be the first one to tell you that I don't use LinkedIn as often as I should. But I can tell you that if I found myself with no job, LinkedIn would be my 100% go to. As soon as you find yourself with no job, update your LinkedIn and begin requesting new additions to your network. Reach out to professionals in the same industry and send messages. Let individuals know you are looking for work. It doesn't hurt to make connections. You never know where things could lead and it's the professional equivalent to sliding into someone's DMs. The worst thing they can say is they are not hiring right now, and that's okay. Create great content and touch base from time to time. Create relationships where there were none and you just may create new opportunities for yourself.

3) Regional is the new National

Covid had completely normalized working from home. In fact employers have realized that individuals that work from home are not only happier but more productive. You can reach out to companies anywhere for work if you sat behind a desk and a couple of monitors. Analyzed data? Statistical Analysis? Financial Analysis? Marketing Manager? Process Management? Financial Products? Financial Investments? There are so many industries that are now open to work from home. If you are specialized in some area, the greater your talent can be used by just about any company across the US that needs that specialty. Don't box your work life regionally anymore. If you can work 100% remotely, your new work canvas is all 50 states. Be creative and learn how to convince companies that you are up to the job, no matter how far you are right now, a company is willing to take a chance on you if you have a great track record of success.
